The Chelmsford Half Marathon is taking place on Sunday 2nd March 2025.

Whilst the marathon is underway, traffic management will be enforced to ensure the safety of race participants. For the duration of the event there will be short traffic holds, bus stops closed, rolling road closures and route diversions. 

The majority of road closures begin at 05:00am and are scheduled to have ended by 13:00. Road closures may re-open early depending on how quickly the runners complete sections of the race.

Due to the location of the event multiple services will experience delays - this will disrupt services in South, Mid and North Essex. Please continue to check this page as we will continue to add information in the lead-up to the event. Last updated 28/02/2025.

SHORT TRAFFIC HOLDS:

There will be short traffic holds, to allow race participants to safely cross the road. 

The following roads will have short traffic holds (between the hours of 08:50 and 09:15):

  • Broomfield Road
  • Parkway
  • Rainsford Road
  • Duke Street
  • Coval Lane
  • Victoria Road South
  • New London Road

CLOSED BUS STOPS:

05:00hrs to 13:00hrs - Bus stops on Parkway (between New London Road and the Army and Navy roundabout) will be temporarily closed.

The following bus stops will be closed:

  • Parkway
  • Army & Navy

For services travelling out of Chelmsford - bus stops will closed and will not be served.

For services travelling into Chelmsford - bus stops will remain open.

05:00hrs to 10:30hrs - High Bridge Road will be closed.

Towards Chelmsford: Services C8 and C11 will divert, after serving Tesco Store, via Kings Meadow Roundabout, Springfield Road and Victoria Road before returning to normal line of route at Duke Street. 

Towards Beaulieu Park: Services C8 and C11 will divert, after serving Parkway, via Odeon Roundabout, Parkway, Victoria Road South and Victoria Road before returning to normal line of route on Springfield Road. 
C9

07:00hrs on 28th Feb to 22:00hrs on 02 Mar - Alan Cherry Drive will be closed.

08:50hrs to 09:25hrs - Bishops Hall Lane will be closed. During this time, there will be short traffic holds at Bishop Hall Lane/Hoffmanns Way/New Street roundabout.

Service C9 will divert in both directions via Chelmer Valley Road, Rectory Lane and Ransomes Way/Bishop Hall Lane. 
31, 331 and 332

05:00hrs to 13:00hrs - Essex Yeomanry Way (A1114) will be closed (Eastbound road closure from Army & Navy Roundabout to Howe Green Roundabout).

Towards Chelmsford: Normal line of route as A1114 Westbound will remain open - No diversion.

Towards Burnham-on-Crouch: Service 31 will divert via Baddow Road, Tabors Hill and Maldon Road. 
71, X71 and 371

04:00hrs to 12:30hrs - Chelmer Village Way will be closed (Westbound road closure from Kingsford Drive roundabout to junction with Mill Vue Road roundabout).

Towards Colchester: Normal line of route as Chelmer Village Way Eastbound will remain open - No diversion.

Towards Chelmsford: Service 71, X71 and 371 will divert, after serving Brook End Road, by returning back along Chelmer Village Way and New Dukes Way before returning to normal line of route on Chelmer Road. 

The following bus stop(s) will not be served: Henniker Gate, Chelmer Village Shopping Centre, Pollard's Green and Goddard Way.
300 Chelmsford Bus Station will not be served. Journeys will terminate/recommence at Wood Street, Tesco Store. 05:00hrs to 13:00hrs - Essex Yeomanry Way (A1114) will be closed (Eastbound road closure from Army & Navy Roundabout to Howe Green Roundabout).

Towards Stansted Airport: Normal line of route as A1114 Westbound will remain open - No diversion.

Towards Basildon: Service X10 will divert between Chelmsford and Wickford/Rettendon via Galleywood Road, the A12 and the A130.

Towards Stansted Airport: Normal line of route as A1114 Westbound will remain open - No diversion.

Towards Southend-on-Sea: Service X30 will divert, after serving Chelmsford Bus Station, via Parkway, Rainsford Lane, Waterhouse Lane, Westway, London Road, Three Mile Hill and A12 before returning to normal line of route on Rettendon Bypass (A130). 

  • Chelmsford Bus Station 08:47 departure to Southend Travel Centre will commence at Retail Market bus stop.
  • Chelmsford Bus Station 09:03 departure to Stansted Airport will commence at Retail Market bus stop.
