27 July, 2023

From 30 July 2023 it will not be possible to purchase 7 Day TravelMaster tickets using contactless payments (including Apple/Google Pay) on-board buses within South Yorkshire.  Cash will continue to be accepted.

Contactless and card payments will continue to be accepted for the tickets:

  • on Supertram
  • through the new TravelMaster App
  • at ticket vending machines in transport interchanges
  • at over 900 Payzone stores
  • on the TravelMaster website

When purchased in advance 7 day tickets are cheaper than on-board.

The change is being made due to fraud concerns regarding on-board bus payments. The following tickets will be affected:

  • CityBus 7 Day
  • CityWide 7 Day
  • BConnect 7 Day
  • DonConnect 7 Day
  • RConnect 7 Day
  • SYConnect 7 Day (card payments previously withdrawn January 2023)

John Henshall, TravelMaster General Manager said on the change:

“Whilst it is always disappointing to need to remove a convenient payment option for our customers, it is imperative that we act now to prevent serious fraud concerns from our operators.  We will continue to monitor the situation and have been working on ensuring our customers continue to have alternative methods for buying and loading tickets to their smartcards, including the new TravelMaster app.”
