First Norwich buzzes into White House Farm Primary School on first stop of electric bus tour

• First Norwich is visiting schools in Norwich with a brand new electric zero-emissions double deck bus.
• The first stop of the tour was at White House Primary School in Sprowston.
• First Norwich is currently operating 24 electric vehicles in the city, this number will increase to 70 by April this year.
• First Norwich invites city schools to request a stop on the tour.

First Norwich buzzed into White House Farm Primary School in Sprowston this week, on the first stop of its electric bus tour of the City’s schools.

Members of the First Norwich team visited the school with the zero-emission bus, taking 28 of its Year 4 pupils, aged eight and nine, out for a ride to experience the vehicle first-hand. The children were also given information on how the bus works and its impressive sustainability credentials.

First Norwich launched its first electric buses in October. There are currently 24 of the vehicles operating in the city, but this number will increase to 70 – 59 double decks and 11 single decks – by April this year.

The First Norwich team spoke to the children about why the vehicles are good news for Norwich and planet earth, as they help to combat climate change, and mean cleaner air for the city’s residents and visitors.

Rachel Hirst, Employee Director at First Norwich, said: “We had a great time meeting the Year 4 children at White House Primary School this week, they loved riding on the bus and were really engaged with the information on why these electric vehicles are important for our planet.

“It’s crucial that our young people understand the importance of making sustainable decisions, and our electric buses are an important step in the regions battle against climate change, as well as helping to improve the city’s air quality.

“We look forward to visiting more schools across the City over the coming weeks and months."

Mr Zilch, class teacher at White House Primary School, said: “The children had been learning about electricity in science and this was a wonderful opportunity to link their learning to real world applications. 

“The children loved learning about how many batteries the bus had and linking their knowledge of electrical components to a moving vehicle and loved learning about the environment impacts of the bus of reduced CO2 and air pollution.”
