Poetry Bus
In the summer of 2024, we launched our First Poetry Bus on our Mendip Xplorer service.
The project, led by us and passenger group Glastonbury On The Bus, has given young people across the Mendips the chance to express themselves through words and art.
Pupils from St Dunstan's Community School in Glastonbury have worked with local poet Thommie Gillow to pen short pieces of poetry.
Following a visit kindly hosted by the Bristol Hippodrome, where budding designers from Strode College in Street were taken through a workshop from our design agency, the mhd partnership, the students, as well as some members of college staff, have illustrated the poetry using the words as their inspiration.
The poems and art in this project, which has been supported by Elizabeth J Walker, Glastonbury Town Council, Inn Glastonbury Ltd, The Covenstead and The Hollow Hills, can now be seen on four buses on our service 376 between Street and Bristol.
Keep your eyes peeled on our Mendip Xplorer service, and if you board one of our Poetry Buses be sure to immerse yourself in the words and image around you.
As a taster, please see below some of the poems and illustrations that will be showcased on our buses:
