First Essex will be introducing new route X20 between Colchester, Marks Tey, Coggeshall, Marks Farm, Braintree, Great Notley, Dunmow and Stansted Airport from 23rd July 2023

The service run up to every hour, daily, with additional route 320 journeys between Braintree and Colchester added at busy times.

As a result of the introduction of route X20, there are a number of changes to the existing routes 70 and 370 which currently run between Colchester, Braintree and Chelmsford.

  • The X20 replaces the existing route 370 between Colchester, Coggeshall and Braintree. At busy times on Monday to Friday and on schooldays, additional route 320 journeys will operate between Great Notley / Braintree and Colchester to provide extra capacity where demand is highest.
  • The section of route between Chelmsford, Great Leighs, Great Notley, Braintree and Marks Farm will continue to run every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturday with additional buses at the busiest times in the morning and afternoon peak periods. Route 70 will run via Rayne Road in Braintree as now, with the journeys which currently run as route 370 renumbered as route 170.
  • The evening and Sunday journeys which are currently numbered 42B will be renumbered as route 370. The Sunday service is simplified and improved to run every hour between Chelmsford, Braintree and Halstead
  • In Chelmsford, all route 70, 170 and 370 journeys will terminate at the bus station.

Route  42A between Bishops Stortford and Chelmsford has minor revisions to the timetable, with most journeys leaving Bishops Stortford a few minutes earlier than at present. The last journey from Bishops Stortford, departing at 2035, will change to a route C1 bus at Broomfield Hospital at 2137 and run through to Chelmsford city centre and Galleywood.

Routes 71, X71 and 371 between Chelmsford, Witham and Colchester will run to a new timetable, with changes to most departure times during the daytime on Monday to Saturday. The Sunday timetable is revised and improved to run every hour between Chelmsford, Witham and Colchester.

Route 73 and 73A between Chelmsford, Maldon and Heybridge has a minor revision with one journey in each direction diverted via Boreham village. These diverted journeys will be renumbered as route 73B

Route C1 between Broomfield Hospital and Galleywood has a minor change to the timetable on Sunday evenings, with a new departure at 2137 from the hospital.
