Effective03/09/2023 - 17/09/2023
The below changes, which will see improvements to the overall bus network in the West of England, are part of a bi-annual review of routes, and will come into effect from Sunday 3rd September.
What's Changing
Service 20 Weston-super-Mare – Burnham-on-Sea
Service 20 will change to the winter timetable from 3rd September, to align with schools returning and the seasonal reduction in demand. Buses will run hourly, with the Sunday service finishing for the summer at the end of October.

Service 29 Taunton - Street & Glastonbury and service 75 Bridgwater - Street & Glastonbury/Wells
We will be taking over some of the journeys on these routes from our sister company Buses of Somerset. The routes will still be the same as before with only minor changes, but the colour of the buses will change! The 75 will be wholly operated by First West of England (Bristol, Bath and the West) from 4th September, and the majority of the 29 will be operated by First West of England from the same date. Some journeys on the 29 will continue to be run by Buses of Somerset, and tickets will be interchangeable between all journeys.
What does this mean for tickets?
The West of England Zone will now cover both Taunton and Bridgwater when using routes 29 or 75.
If you are using mTickets, Somerset tickets will continue to be accepted on both the 29 and 75 (as well as service 376 between Wells and Street). West of England Zone tickets, purchased through the Bristol, Bath and the West menu on the First Bus app, will also be accepted throughout routes 29 and 75 (as well as the full length of the 376 as now).
If you are buying tickets on the bus, the Government £2 single fare scheme will continue to apply. For day tickets, West of England Zone tickets can be purchased to cover travel on the 29 and 75, including on journeys on the 29 that remain operated by Buses of Somerset. To travel on other Buses of Somerset services around or beyond Taunton and/or Bridgwater, you'll need to buy a West of England Plus ticket. Somerset day tickets will continue to be accepted on the 29 and 75 too.
Student and Child fares - First West of England student and child fares will apply on the 29 and 75, with discounts for those travelling who are students and/or aged 16-21. All child singles will be £1 and child returns will be £2.
Tap On Tap Off - Our Tap On, Tap Off system will be extended to cover both routes 29 and 75. It's the easiest way to pay - just tap as you get on and off the bus. For full information, please visit our Tap On, Tap Off page. West of England Zone capping will apply on all journeys operated by First West of England. Tap On Tap Off will be active on the route 29 journeys operated by Buses of Somerset, however these won't contribute towards any capping at the moment.

Service X1 Asda & Bournville – Weston-super-Mare – Bristol
Service X1 will run more frequently - now every 15 minutes all through the day on weekday daytimes.
At Weston-super-Mare, it will be extended beyond the town centre (Marine Parade) to replace the existing service 3 route through Bournville to Searle Crescent, picking up the existing service 3 route from Clevedon Road. It will terminate at Asda having come via Marchfields Way and Winterstoke Road to avoid peak time congestion. The 15 minute frequency means that Bournville will benefit from more frequent buses than before, as well as the service running much later into the evening than the 3.

Service X4 Portishead – Bristol
Revised timetable. Buses will now operate every 20 minutes during weekday daytimes without any 25 minute gaps.

Service X5 Weston-super-Mare – Clevedon – Portishead
Between Clevedon and Worle, the X5 will now serve Yatton and Congresbury rather than taking its existing route via the M5. This sees a restoration of bus services to Yatton, and increases the journey opportunities available on service X5.
The X5 will also serve the South Road area of Weston-super-Mare at the start of most trips to Portishead, providing a link from South Road to town, and journey opportunities onto Yatton, Clevedon and Portishead.

Service X8 / X9 Nailsea – Bristol

Service Y1 Bristol – Yate & Chipping Sodbury
Service Y1 will be extended to serve The Centre at Bristol rather than Bristol Bus Station, and the timetable will be revised. Buses will drop off and pick up at the stops opposite/beside St Mary on the Quay.
The Y1 will also have a revised timetable to improve punctuality. The diversion via Winterbourne due to the closure of Badminton Road where it crosses the M4 will still be in place in September. The number of buses between Bristol and Yate will be doubled alongside new service Y2 (please see below).

Service Y2 Bristol – Yate & Brimsham Park
A new service with a frequency of every 30 minutes Mon-Sat and hourly on Sundays. It connects Bristol to Yate and Brimsham Park.

Service Y6 Bristol – Southmead Hospital – Cribbs Causeway – Yate & Chipping Sodbury
The Y6 will have a revised timetable. Between Southmead Hospital and Bristol City Centre, this service will now operate via Henleaze along the 2/2a route, rather than Gloucester Road, providing more buses in the Henleaze area and providing direct links to Southmead Hospital to a wider area. Service 76 will continue to link Gloucester Road to Southmead Hospital directly.
