See the best of Exmoor by open top bus!
Hop on board and get ready for an adventure on one of the most spectacular open-top bus rides, combining the wild beauty of the Exmoor National Park and the seaside harbour of Lynmouth.
We have shared just some of the amazing things to see and do along the Exmoor Coaster route. Remember you can jump on and off with a day ticket!
Explore Dunster
This picturesque village is one of England's most intact medieval villages and home to a wealth of history and culture with Dunster Castle, Dunster Yarn Market and Dunster Tithe Barn to explore. You'll also find plenty of tea rooms, gift shops and restaurants here.
Ride up the famous Porlock Hill
We couldn't talk about our favourite spots along this route without mentioning the famous Porlock Hill - the steepest A-road in the UK! Once a real test for early cars and their drivers' skills, our powerful open-top bus makes light(ish) work of the notorious 1 in 4 Porlock Hill with its scary hairpin bends. We think this all adds to the thrill of this fantastic ride!
Board a narrow-gauge steam train at Woody Bay Railway Station
Step back in time at the only steam railway in the UK where passengers travel in Victorian railway carriages designed in the 1890s! Take a one mile return trip from Woody Bay Station to Killington Lane and back. Two miles in total taking approximately 20 minutes.
(Psst!... receive 20% discount off train travel at Woody Bay Station during standard running days when you show your Adventures by Bus ticket on the day of travel)
Feel inspired at Greencombe Gardens
Greencombe is located on a sheltered hillside between Porlock and Porlock Weir, home to many beautiful and rare plants. Did you know the garden is organic and uses between 25 and 30 tons of home produced compost and leaf-mould each year?
(Psst!... receive 20% discount off admission to Greencombe Gardens when you show your Adventures by Bus ticket on the day of travel. Valid until 31st July 2024)
Jump off at Exmoor Country Gate for a ramble
As the name suggests, this is where Devon and West Somerset meet! Approximately 5 miles from Lynmouth and 6.5 miles from Porlock, there are stunning views from every angle. If you’re a keen walker, or just looking to take in the views, be sure to stop off and recharge at The Ramblers Rest (Britain's highest coastal road team room) for a relaxing drink or a tasty lunch.
(Psst!... receive 10% discount off food and drink at The Ramblers Rest when you show your Adventures by Bus ticket on the day of travel)
Explore Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park
Nestling in a valley with cascading streams and waterfalls is home to Devon’s very own prehistoric park. Jump off here and experience the exotic animals including African lions, baboons, lemurs, sea lions, penguins, meerkats and rare Hudson Bay wolves!
(Psst!... receive 20% discount off admission to Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park when you show your Adventures by Bus ticket on the day of travel)
Relax in Lynmouth
Picture rows of charming fishing cottages, cafes and interesting shops clustered around a pretty harbour.
Also high above Lynmouth is Lynton, and the best way to get there is to ascend on the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway. Opened in 1890, it is thought to be the highest and the steepest totally water-powered railway in the world. The views are heavenly!
