On Saturday September 10th 2022, Dorset will be hosting Stage 7 of the Tour of Britain Bicycle Race.

The official time of the race is from 04:00 onwards, however the race will only affect our services from 04:00 until approximately 13:15.

Our main services it will affect, are as follows:

PART 1: COAST ROAD FROM WESTBAY > CHICKERELL CLOSED

X52 11:23 / X53 10:23 – OUTBOUND departures:

Buses will be on divert via Dorchester.

X52 11:28 / X53 10:28 (AX 9:15) - INBOUND departures:

Buses will be on divert via Dorchester.

From 10:30 > 12:00: We are unable to serve any stops between

Weymouth train station & The Crown Inn at Bridport.

Service 8: 11:20 – OUTBOUND & 11:40 INBOUND departures:

Normal route to ‘The Rock’ bus stop.

Then right at the traffic lights on to Abbotsbury Road.

Then left on to Weymouth Way,

then the 2nd exit at Chafey’s Roundabout on to Granby Way.

Then the 1st exit on to Radipole Lane.

Then left at the traffic lights on to Chickerell Road,

then continuing the 11:40 inbound route as normal towards Weymouth.

We are unable to serve any outbound stops between The Rock & Chickerell East Street.

We are unable to serve any inbound stops between Chickerell East Street and Alf’s Fish & Chips.

PART 2:

DORCHESTER RD / LITTLEMOOR RD / COOMBE VALLEY RD CLOSED

Service 2: 11:25 & 11:40 – OUTBOUND & INBOUND

Normal route to Mount Pleasant Park & Ride.

Take the last exit and waiting time in the Park & Ride turning area until the inbound journey.

We are unable to serve any outbound stops between

Mount Pleasant Park & Ride & Canberra Road.

We are unable to serve any inbound stops between

Canberra Road & Manor Road.

Service 10: 11:25 & 11:45 – OUTBOUND

Normal route to Morrisons.

Then taking the 3rd exit at Manor Roundabout

followed by the 1st exit at Veasta Roundabout on to the A354.

Then the 1st exit at Jurassic Roundabout until Monkton Park.

Then the 1st exit at Stadium Roundabout,

then the 4th exit at Monkeys Jump Roundabout,

then the 3rd exit at the next roundabout on to Middle Farm Way

arriving in to Poundbury Mansell Square.

Service 10: 11:08 & 11:28 INBOUND - the same as above but in reverse.

We are unable to serve any outbound stops in Weymouth between:

Manor Road & Elwell Street or

any stops in Dorchester between

Tesco’s & Gloucester Road.

We are unable to serve any inbound stops in Dorchester between:

Gloucester Road & Tesco’s or

any stops in Weymouth between Elwell Street & Manor Road.

Service 4 11:50 OUTBOUND –

Normal route to Chalbury Corner.

Then the 2nd exit at the roundabout on to Preston Road.

Then left into Seven Acres Road.

Then right up Brunel Drive,

then left on to Stanier Road and continuing route as normal

towards Seven Acres.

We are unable to serve Allberry Gardens, Barton Drive or Stanier Road stops.

PART 3:

DORCHESTER CLOSED

Service X51 11:11 OUTBOUND

Normal route to Monkton Park.

Then the 1st exit at Stadium Roundabout,

then the 4th exit at Monkeys Jump Roundabout

then the 3rd exit at the next roundabout on to Middle Farm Way

arriving in to Poundbury Mansell Square.

Then continuing route as normal towards Bridport.

Service X51 10:15 (Axminster) INBOUND - the same as above but in reverse.

We are unable to serve any outbound stops between

Dorchester Tesco’s & Gloucester Road.

We are unable to serve any inbound stops between

Gloucester Road and Dorchester Tesco’s.

PART 4:

POXWELL > WOOL CLOSED

X52 12:05 INBOUND & X54 11:50 OUTBOUND

THIS IS A ROLLING ROAD CLOSURE AND

NO ALTERNATIVE ROUTES ARE AVAILABLE

CUSTOMERS WILL EXPERIENCE SLIGHT DELAYS TO THEIR JOURNEY

PART 5: WAREHAM > WORGRET CLOSED

X54 11:50 OUTBOUND & 12:20 INBOUND

THIS IS A ROLLING ROAD CLOSURE AND

NO ALTERNATIVE ROUTES ARE AVAILABLE

CUSTOMERS WILL EXPERIENCE SLIGHT DELAYS TO THEIR JOURNEY

New Winter Timetables

Heads up! Our new winter timetables are launching on Sunday, 20th October 2024 as part of our regular network review.

Created using feedback from bus users, as well as First Wessex drivers, the changes include the retiming of the morning service for Weymouth College students, with the first journey from Beaminster timed to help students connect at Bridport.

In partnership with Dorset Council, the trial diversion of the X51 to serve Martinstown and Winterbourne Steepleton will also continue during the winter season. Passenger numbers will continue to be reviewed to assess the route’s long-term viability.

The X53 route which is currently running on diversion while works take place at Goose Hill in Portesham, will continue with the temporary route and shuttle service T53 until 8 November.

Alongside this are the usual reduction of some services for the winter season, in particular on the Jurassic Coaster services (X51, X53, X54).

Full list of changes:

Route 1 – Journey times revised to account for winter season traffic levels. No changes to frequency.
Route 2 – Frequency reduced to every 20 mins Monday to Saturday. A half hourly service continues on Sundays with revised journey times.
Route 4 – Frequency reduced to every 40 mins daily
Route 8 – Sunday service reduced to operate 10am to 5pm only and journey times revised throughout to account for winter season traffic levels.
Route 10 – Frequency restored to every 15 minutes Monday to Friday, every 20 mins Saturday and every 30 mins Sunday with journey times revised throughout to account for winter season traffic levels.
Route X51 – Sunday service withdrawn for winter season and journey times revised throughout to account for winter season traffic levels. In partnership with Dorset County Council, route X51 will continue to serve Martinstown and Winterbourne Steepleton during the winter season.
Route X53 – Journey times revised to account for winter season traffic levels.
Route X54 – Frequency reduced for the winter season. Please check the timetable.
Route CR6 – The first journey from Beaminster will now depart at 7.04am to ensure a connection at Bridport for students travelling to Weymouth College.

Terrance James, Head of Network for First Wessex, said: “Working in partnership with Dorset Council we’re pleased to make changes which continue to improve services for our customers. These include continuing the X51 route to serve Martinstown and Winterbourne Steepleton, as well as helping college students in Beaminster make their connection to Weymouth College.

“Our next round of network changes will be in May next year and we’re keen to hear from local people on what else they’d like to see from our services.”
