Services C8-C11 & 73 | Springfield Road, Chelmsford | OVERNIGHT road closures

Queen Street, Colchester has been closed for emergency roadworks (from today) Wednesday 26th June 2024 and scheduled to finish by end of day Wednesday 3rd July 2024.

Due to the location of the roadworks multiple Colchester services will be placed on diversion:

S1 - towards Colchester City Centre. This service will divert via Middleborough, Balkerne Hill and Southway before returning to normal line of route on Military Road. The following bus stops will not be served: Angel Court and Queen Street.

S2 - towards Colchester City Centre. This service will divert via Middleborough, Balkerne Hill and Southway before returning to normal line of route on Osborne Street. The following bus stop will not be served: High Street.

S3 - towards Colchester City Centre. This service will divert via Middleborough, Balkerne Hill and Southway before returning to normal line of route on Military Road - where this service changes to an S9 to Rowhedge*. The following bus stops will not be served: High Street and Angel Court.

S4 - towards Greenstead. This service will divert via Stanwell Street and Southway before returning to normal line of route on Magdalen Street. The following bus stops will not be served: Head Street, High Street and Queen Street.

S6/S7 - towards Colchester City Centre. These services will divert via Southway and Osborne Street. At this point these services will switch from S6/S7 to the S8 service**.

S8 - towards Monkwick**. This service will commence from Osborne Street and will divert via Stanwell Street and Southway before returning to normal line of route on Mersea Road***.

***Journeys that start from Colchester General Hospital will divert via Middleborough, Balkerne Hill and Southway before returning to normal line of route on Mersea Road. The following bus stops will not be served: Angel Court and Queen Street.

S9 - towards Rowhedge*. This journey will commence from Military Road.

S10 - towards Colchester General Hospital. This service will divert via Stanwell Street, Southway, Magdalen Street and Brook Street before returning to normal line of route on East Hill. The following bus stops will not be served: Head Street, The George, Grey Friars and The Surgery.

4 - This service will divert, in both directions, via East Hill, Brook Street and Magdalen Street. All bus stops will be served as normal.

X20 - towards Stansted Airport. This service will divert via Middleborough, Balkerne Hill and Southway before returning to normal line of route on Osborne Street. The following bus stop will not be served: High Street.

X70 - towards Colchester. This service will divert via Southway to reach Osborne Street terminus. The following bus stops will not be served: Head Street and High Street.

80 | 80A - towards Colchester. These services will divert via Middleborough, Balkerne Hill and Southway before returning to normal line of route on Osborne Street. The following bus stop will not be served: High Street.

81 | 81A - towards Colchester. These services will divert via Middleborough, Balkerne Hill and Southway before returning to normal line of route on Osborne Street. The following bus stop will not be served: High Street.

82 | 82A | 82B - towards Colchester. These services will divert via Southway to reach Osborne Street terminus. The following bus stops will not be served: Head Street, High Street and Queen Street.

83 - towards Colchester. This service will divert via Southway to reach Osborne Street terminus. The following bus stops will not be served: Head Street, High Street and Queen Street.

87 - towards Horkesley Heath. This service will divert via Brook Street and Magdalen Street. The following bus stops will not be served: opp The Surgery and Greyfriars.

88 | 88A | 88B - towards Colchester. These services will divert via Southway to reach Osborne Street terminus. The following bus stops will not be served: Head Street and High Street.

104 - This service will divert, in both directions, via East Hill, Brook Street and Magdalen Street. All bus stops will be served as normal.

320 - towards Colchester. This service will divert via Southway to reach Osborne Street terminus. The following bus stops will not be served: Head Street and High Street.

371 | 372 | 71 | X71 - towards Colchester. These services will divert via Southway to reach Osborne Street terminus. The following bus stops will not be served: Head Street and High Street.

Ronald Road, Halstead will be closed for daily roadworks from Monday 8th July to Tuesday 16th July 2024 (from 09:30hrs to 15:30hrs each day).

Due to the location of the road closure, the 88 service will divert via White Horse Avenue.

Northern Approach Road, Colchester will be closed for roadworks on a nightly basis from Monday 1st July to Saturday 13th July 2024 (between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00 (the next morning)).

Services 11, 68, 80/80A, S1 and S2 will be permitted through the road closure. 

However, please note: there may be slight delays to service as the bus might be required to wait for an operative to escort them through the closure.

Station Road, Little Dunmow will be closed for works from Monday 24th June to Friday 12th July 2024.

Due to the location of the road closure, the 570 service will be placed on diversion:

Towards Colchester

Service 570 will divert, after serving Homelye Chase bus stop, via Braintree Road/Dunmow Road (B1256), Braintree Road (B1417) and Station Road before turning onto Tanton Road, Flitch Green. Passengers can board the bus on Tanton Road, Flitch Green. The bus will then continue journey back towards Felsted.

The next bus stop will be Mill Road bus stop.

Towards Great Dunmow

Service 570 will divert, after serving Mill Road bus stop, via Tanton Road, Flitch Green. Passengers can disembark the bus on Tanton Road, Flitch Green. The bus will continue journey back towards Felsted.

The next bus stop will be Homelye Chase bus stop.

The following bus stops will not be served (in both directions):

• Braintree Road
• The Flitch of Bacon
• The Moors
• Bramble Lane
• Baynard Avenue
• Tanton Road (bus stop located on Station Road)

Service update was amended on 26/06/2024 | Reason for amendment: additional detail provided regarding 87 journeys not serving Wivenhoe.

The Avenue, Wivenhoe will be closed on a nightly basis for roadworks; from Monday 1st July to Friday 6th July 2024 - between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00 the next morning.

Due to the location of the road closure, the S1, 74B and 87 services will be placed on diversion:

74B (to Clacton-on-Sea) and 87 (to Brightlingsea)

The A120, between Bishops Stortford and Braintree will be closed for works, on a nightly basis, from Monday 24th June to Sunday 30th 2024 - from 20:00hrs each night to 06:00hrs the next morning.

Due to the location of the roadworks the X30 service will divert, in both directions, via Stortford Road/Dunmow Road (B1256) and Parsonage Road.

All bus stops will be served as normal.

Queen Elizabeth Way, Colchester will be closed for roadworks on a daily basis from Wednesday 26th June 2024 to Monday 1st July 2024 (from 09:00hrs to 17:30hrs each day).

Due to the location of the road closure, the S8 and 174/175 services will be placed on diversion:

S8

The S8 service will divert, in both directions, via Mersea Road and Stansted Road. The following bus stops will not be served: 

• Talcott Road
• Monkwick Avenue

174 - only one journey will be placed on diversion (15:05 departure from Stanwell Street)

The 174 service will divert via Stansted Road and Queen Elizabeth Way before returning to normal line of route on Monkwick Avenue. The next bus stop served will be The Thomas Lord bus stop. The following bus stop will not be served: 

• adj Talcott Road

175 - only one journey will be placed on diversion (07:30 departure from Stanwell Street)

The 175 service will divert, after serving The Thomas Lord bus stop, via Queen Elizabeth Way and Stansted Road before returning to normal line of route. The following bus stops will not be served: 

• Monkwick Avenue (adj)
• opp Talcott Road

Dugard Avenue, Colchester will be closed for roadworks from Monday 24th June 2024 to Friday 5th July 2024.

Due to the location of the road closure, the 4 service will be placed on diversion:

Towards Stanway

Service 4 will serve bus stops on Straight Road, James Carter Road and Newcastle Avenue before being placed on diversion.

Service 4 will divert (past Dugard Avenue) via Straight Road and London Road (A1124) before circumnavigating roundabout (located by Costa Coffee) and returning back along London road (A1124) and arriving at terminus -  Sainsburys Store (Stand 1). The service will be paused before recommencing at next timetabled departure. The following bus stops will not be served:

Towards Hythe

Service 4 will divert, after serving Church Lane (E-bound) bus stop, via Warren Lane, Maldon Road (B1022), Shrub End Road and Straight Road before returning to normal line of route and serving opp Shillito Close bus stop. The following bus stops will not be served:

The A120, between Bishops Stortford and Braintree will be closed for works, on a nightly basis, from Monday 24th June to Monday 2nd September 2024 - from 20:00hrs each night to 06:00hrs the next morning.

Towards Stansted Airport

The X20 service will divert, after serving adj Tortoiseshell Way bus stop, via Pod's Brook Road, Rayne Road, The Street, Dunmow Road, B1256, B1008, Stortford Road, B1256 and Parsonage Road before returning to normal line of route.

Towards Colchester

The X20 service will divert via Parsonage Road, B1256, Stortford Road, B1008, B1256, Dunmow Road, The Street, Rayne Road and Pod's Brook Road before returning to normal line of route at opp Tortoiseshell Way bus stop.

The following bus stops will not be served, in both directions, whilst service is placed on diversion: 

• Oak Industrial Estate
• Gatehouse Villas
• Station Road
• High Street
• Stortford Road
• The Queen Victoria
• Woodside Way

Further to the ongoing roadworks taking place on Springfield Road, Chelmsford > Services C8-C11-47 & 73 | Springfield Road, Chelmsford | Road closure | First Bus

FULL overnight road closures will be enforced on Springfield road, between the junction with Navigation Road and Bond Street, from Tuesday 18th June to Sunday 30th June 2024 - from 20:00hrs each night to 06:00hrs the next morning.

As this is a full road closure, the C8, C11 and 73 services will be placed on diversion in both directions:

Towards Beaulieu Park and Maldon

Services C8, C11 and 73 will divert via Parkway, Army & Navy Roundabout, Chelmer Road and Sandford Road before returning to normal line of route on Springfield Road. 

The following bus stops continue to not be served during the day and overnight until end of day Sunday 30th June 2024: o/s Town Centre Tesco Store and opp Boswells Drive.

Towards Chelmsford Bus Station

Services C8, C11 and 73 will divert via Sandford Road, Chelmer Road, Army & Navy Roundabout and Parkway.
